Kids on School Bus

It’s going to be a GREAT year in Wilkes County Schools!  We are looking forward to another year of learning and growing together!  Some of our students remain active all summer!   Our band members and many of our athletes are already busy participating in camps and practice for the coming year!  Staff and teachers, too, have been busy getting ready for the students’ return.  The campuses never completely close!

This year, our doors will open to approximately 1,375 students!  Open Houses will be held again this year.  This is always a large, exciting event for students and parents to meet teachers and get schedules!

CLICK ON THE TRANSPORTATION LINK for information about bus routes!    We are using bus stops in many of our locations.  You can check the website for your child’s bus or call the bus shop at 706-678-2192.  Bus Notes are required for students to ride a different bus or get dropped off at a different address other than their address on file.  We are so excited to have 14 *NEW* air-conditioned buses in our fleet this year!  Ten of these new buses run on propane which is a cleaner fuel and good for our environment!

We will host our annual walk-through with emergency personnel, so please do not be alarmed if you notice large numbers of law enforcement and rescue personnel at the schools before school begins.  This event helps familiarize all involved so that everyone is familiar with the facilities when responding to emergencies.

Be on the lookout for school buses beginning Friday, August 5,  and please remember that it is unlawful to pass in either direction when a school bus is stopped with flashers on.

We want everyone to have a safe and successful year!
